This recipe is a fantastic way to repurpose leftover country fried steak, transforming it into a delicious and satisfying breakfast. If you happen to have some extra CFS from a previous meal, don’t hesitate to use it! This not only saves on cooking time but also gives the tacos a wonderfully seasoned and familiar flavor. Just be sure to save any leftover white gravy as it will be a delightful addition to your breakfast tacos.

Alternatively, if you don’t have leftovers on hand, feel free to prepare fresh chicken fried steak specifically for this recipe. Whether you choose to use leftover or fresh, the end result will be a flavorful and hearty start to your day.

Can you use corn tortillas for country fried steak breakfast tacos?

Exploring alternative tortilla options for country fried steak breakfast tacos opens up a range of textures and flavors. While flour tortillas are a common and pliable choice, corn tortillas present a distinct character to the dish.

Corn tortillas, typically smaller and more robust than flour tortillas, offer an earthier flavor profile that can complement the richness of the country fried steak. Their texture, when properly heated, can range from soft and slightly chewy to crispy, depending on preference and preparation method. Double-stacking corn tortillas can provide added strength and prevent tearing when filled with the steak and other breakfast components.

Considerations when using corn tortillas include their tendency to break or crack if overfilled or not sufficiently warmed. Techniques like lightly grilling or pan-frying the tortillas can enhance their flexibility and flavor. Additionally, the smaller size of most corn tortillas might necessitate using more tortillas per serving compared to larger flour tortillas.

Ultimately, the choice between corn and flour tortillas depends on individual taste preferences and the desired textural experience of the breakfast tacos. Corn tortillas offer a gluten-free alternative and a unique flavor dimension that can be a delightful variation for country fried steak breakfast tacos.

Crispy Alternatives for Your Tacos

A readily available and equally satisfying option is a fried pork chop. Whether bone-in or boneless, a tender pork chop coated in a similar seasoned flour mixture and fried to a golden crisp offers a robust and flavorful alternative. Consider brining the pork chop beforehand to enhance its juiciness and tenderness, ensuring a delightful bite in every taco. Cut around the bone before serving.

If you crave poultry but lack steak, fried chicken is a natural and delicious substitution. Chicken breasts or even thighs can be pounded thin, coated, and fried to achieve that signature crispy exterior and tender interior. The lighter flavor profile of chicken can be wonderfully complemented by a variety of sauces and salsas within your taco.

For those seeking plant-based options, the “chicken fried” technique can be surprisingly successful with vegetables. Chicken fried mushrooms, particularly large portobello slices, offer a meaty texture and earthy flavor that stands up well to the frying process. Similarly, chicken fried tofu, using firm or extra-firm tofu that has been pressed to remove excess water, provides a satisfyingly chewy and crispy element to your vegetarian breakfast tacos.

Best way to reheat chicken fried steak

For best results reheating leftover chicken fried steak, use a very hot oven to restore the crust’s crispness (indicated by bubbling). Immediately transfer the steak to a baking sheet in the preheated oven. Once crisp, rest the steak briefly to redistribute juices for a more succulent result. This reheated steak, with its crispy crust and tender inside, is excellent thinly sliced in tacos.

Sauce to top this taco

Creamy white peppercorn gravy offers a classic, comforting, savory, and subtly peppery touch that complements the crispy steak and eggs. For heat lovers, a robust red spicy salsa provides a contrasting bright acidity and fiery kick, adding complexity. The best choice depends on personal preference, but both options significantly improve the tacos’ deliciousness. Green sauce is always a good option for any breakfast taco.

Additions to elevate your Country Fried Steak Breakfast Tacos:

  • Cheese: Shredded cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend of cheeses can be added for a melty and savory element.
  • Salsa: A vibrant salsa, whether mild or spicy, can add a fresh and tangy kick.
  • Avocado or Guacamole: Creamy avocado slices or a dollop of guacamole can provide a smooth and rich counterpoint to the other ingredients.
  • Sour Cream or Crema: A drizzle of sour cream or Mexican crema can add a touch of coolness and tanginess.
  • Hot Sauce: For those who like a bit of heat, a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce can elevate the flavor profile.
  • Beans: Refried or black beans can add extra protein and fiber.
