Often times in the winter months I find myself putting healthy on the backburner. Since its so cold out you seek comfort food, hearty soups, pastas, breads and lets not forget the non stop rotation of desserts. So what I like to do is get a serving of veggies in right away in the morning. When I make a smoothie, regardless of the flavor I always sneak in a handful of veggies. For me, I’m like why not you wouldn’t know they were there unless I told you. The key to stealthily sneak veggies into a smoothie for the pickier people out there is very simple but the often over looked process of running the blender long enough! It’s really is that simple and you should never be serving yourself or anyone a under blended, chunky smoothies. Also another tip is ice last, blend all the contents of your smoothie till smooth then add the ice you’ll also gain more control of the consistency of your smoothie that way.

This recipe I love because its chocolatey, not overly sweet and slightly minty without over doing it. Also a plus it helps get rid of the overabundance of candy canes and peppermints that seems to come with the holidays.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/2c spinach
  • 2Tb cocoa powder
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 sugar free peppermint candy
  • 4-6 ice cubes (optional)

Directions

  • Add all ingredients to blender excluding ice and blend till smooth for about a minute on high
  • If you’d like your smoothie colder or thicker add in ice cubes to your personal preference
