Featured Standouts
Cocoa Powder
Cocoa powder is the star of this recipe, so use the best you have. All cocoa powders have different ratios of cocoa solids to cocoa butter, so keep that in mind when sweetening your cocoa powder. If you use cocoa powder with a high percentage of cocoa solids, you may need to add less sugar. If you use cocoa powder with a lower percentage of cocoa solids, you may need to add more sugar. Experiment until you find the perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness for your taste.
Whole milk powder
Whole milk powder is a great way to add a creamy, rich flavor to hot chocolate. It also helps to thicken the hot chocolate and make it more decadent. When you add whole milk powder to hot chocolate, it helps to create a smooth, velvety texture that is simply irresistible. The milk powder also helps to balance out the sweetness of the chocolate, making it a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
Espresso Powder
Espresso and chocolate are a match made in heaven. The rich, bitter flavor of espresso perfectly complements the sweet, creamy taste of chocolate. And when you stir a little instant espresso into your hot chocolate, you take that flavor combination to the next level. The espresso wakes up your taste buds and makes the chocolate taste even richer and more decadent. It’s the perfect way to start your day or to enjoy a decadent treat after dinner.
Malted Milk Powder
Malted milk powder adds a little caramel depth to the powder. It’s a fine powder that seamlessly intertwines with the cocoa powder and espresso, creating a rich, complex flavor that is both sweet and satisfying. The malted milk powder also helps to create a smooth, creamy texture that is perfect for lattes and cappuccinos.
Vanilla
Vanilla powder is a little flavor gem. It can be hard to find in a fine powder, so alternatively a splash of vanilla extract can be added into the cup.
Vanilla powder is a concentrated form of vanilla extract, made by evaporating the alcohol from the extract. It is a fine, powdery substance with a strong vanilla flavor. Vanilla extract, on the other hand, is a liquid made by steeping vanilla beans in alcohol. It has a more subtle flavor than vanilla powder.
If you cannot find vanilla powder, you can substitute a splash of vanilla extract in your recipe. However, keep in mind that vanilla extract is less concentrated than vanilla powder, so you may need to use more of it to achieve the same flavor.
Salt & Tellicherry Pepper
Hear me out. Salt and pepper do some wondrous things in this cup. A little sprinkle boost all the natural flavors from the note of cocoa and espresso. The tellicherry peppercorns are lightly peppery and city making the perfect feature for this mug of cocoa.

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR THE BEST TELLICHERRY BLACK PEPPER HOT COCOA
Smoothing out the lumps
It is essential to break up the clusters or lumps that may form when combining various powders due to pressure or moisture. It also removes harder pieces that may not break down. To make the powder lump-free and ensure your drinks are consistent, sift the cocoa mix after whisking it together.
Making the blend
The goal of this process is to create a dry, dissolvable blend that can be stored for up to four months. To do this, it is important to make sure that the prepared container is super dry. This can be done by wiping it down with a dry cloth or paper towel before adding the ingredients. The prepared blend can then be stored in a cool, dry place.
Here are some additional tips for creating a dry, dissolvable blend:
- Use ingredients that are naturally dry, such as powders or flakes.
- Avoid using ingredients that are moist or sticky, such as honey or syrup.
- If you must use a moist or sticky ingredient, add it separately.
- Store the prepared blend in an airtight container.
- Keep the prepared blend in a cool, dry place.
Top it off
Top this recipe off with whipped cream or classic marshmallow. If you have a torch, go ahead and give the marshmallow a low flame to give them a nice toast.
Dust your hot mug off with a sprinkle of your nutty cocoa powder. It adds a nice contrasting sweet to your drink.
For a more decadent treat, add a few chocolate chips or a dollop of peanut butter to your mug before adding the hot chocolate mix. You can also try adding a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg for a more flavorful drink.
Alternative mixers
The liquid in your mix is almost as important as the cocoa itself. This recipe does great in a lot of milks, so feel free to experiment and find your favorite. Some popular options include:
- Almond milk: This is a great option for those who are lactose intolerant or looking for a plant-based milk. It has a mild flavor that pairs well with cocoa.
- Oat milk: This is another plant-based milk that is becoming increasingly popular. It has a slightly sweeter flavor than almond milk and is a good source of fiber.
- Half and half: This is a good option for those who want a richer, creamier drink. It is made from equal parts milk and cream.
- Whole milk: This is the classic choice for hot chocolate. It has a rich, creamy flavor that is perfect for a cold winter day.
No matter which liquid you choose, be sure to use high-quality cocoa powder. This will make a big difference in the taste of your hot chocolate.
No cornstarch
This recipe does not call for cornstarch because it is not necessary. Cornstarch is used to thicken recipes that are intended to be mixed with water. This recipe is intended to be mixed with milk, which already provides the necessary body.
