Thick Cut Bacon
Thick-cut bacon has a richer, more flavorful taste than regular bacon. The longer cooking time allows the fat to render more slowly, resulting in a more evenly cooked and flavorful piece of bacon. The thicker cut also allows for more surface area, which means more crispy, delicious bacon. If you’re looking for bacon that is rich, flavorful and has a chewier texture, then thick-cut bacon is the way to go.
Cheddar Cheese
Cheddar cheese is a semi-hard, aged cheese with a sharp, tangy flavor. It is a popular choice for burgers because it melts well and adds a rich, creamy flavor to the burger. Cheddar cheese also pairs well with other burger toppings, such as bacon, lettuce, tomato, and onion.
Here are some of the flavors that you can expect from cheddar cheese on a burger:
- Sharp: Cheddar cheese has a sharp, tangy flavor that can be mild or intense. The intensity of the flavor depends on the age of the cheese.
- Salty: Cheddar cheese is naturally salty, but the saltiness can be reduced by using mild cheddar cheese or by adding other ingredients to the burger, such as lettuce or tomato.
- Creamy: Cheddar cheese is a semi-hard cheese, so it melts easily and adds a creamy texture to the burger.
If you are looking for a cheese that will add a rich, creamy flavor to your burger, cheddar cheese is a great option.
Grilled Onions
Grilled onions have a sweet, caramelized flavor with a slightly smoky taste. They are also slightly crunchy, which adds a nice texture to the burger.

THE OPTIONAL

Flipping a large patty
How to Flip a Large Burger Patty
- Use a spatula that is large enough to cover the entire patty.
- Gently loosen the edges of the patty with the spatula.
- Flip the patty by quickly sliding the spatula underneath and flipping it over.
- Be careful not to press down on the patty too hard, as this will cause it to lose its shape.
- Continue to cook the patty for the desired amount of time.
Tips for Flipping a Large Burger Patty
- Use a hot grill or pan. This will help to create a crust on the outside of the patty and prevent it from sticking.
- Don’t overcrowd the grill or pan. This will make it difficult to flip the patty without it breaking apart.
- When the edges start to crisp it’s a good sign it is ready to flip.
Troubleshooting
- If the patty is sticking to the grill or pan, try using a little bit of oil or cooking spray to grease the surface.
- If the patty is breaking apart, try using a smaller spatula or flipping it more gently.
Seering, broiling, or grilling
Of the three cooking methods, grilling is the most challenging because you don’t want the patty to break. If you have a large enough cast iron skillet, that’s the best option. You can also make two large patties. Broiling is the easiest option, but you won’t get the same crispy char on the outside. If you make a mistake, you can patch the patties together with slices of melted cheese.
For a fattier burger
Sure, you can use 85/15 ground beef for a fattier burger. Just be sure to cook it to your desired doneness, as fattier burgers can take longer to cook through. Instead of changing fat ratios you can alternatively add more bacon or baste the burgers in butter.
Leaner Options
A 90/10 beef ratio is not recommended for burgers because it is too lean and will not be as juicy or flavorful as a burger made with a higher fat content. The fat in the ground beef helps to keep the burgers moist and flavorful and also helps to prevent them from drying out. A 90/10 beef ratio is more likely to result in a dry, crumbly burger that is not as enjoyable to eat. For a leaner burger try a different protein that is leaner like ground turkey, chicken, or lamb.
Ground Chicken or Turkey
Turkey burgers have a slightly different flavor than beef burgers. They are often described as being lighter, leaner, and more flavorful than beef burgers. Some people also say that turkey burgers have a slightly sweet taste.
Here are some of the factors that can affect the taste of a turkey burger:
- The type of turkey used: Ground turkey breast is leaner than ground turkey thigh, and will result in a lighter, drier burger. Ground turkey thigh is fattier and will result in a more flavorful, juicy burger.
- The seasonings used: The seasonings you use will also affect the flavor of the burger. Common seasonings for turkey burgers include salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
- The cooking method: The cooking method can also affect the flavor of the burger. Grilling, broiling, and pan-frying are all popular cooking methods for turkey burgers.
Overall, turkey and chicken burgers are a healthier and more flavorful alternative to beef burgers. They are also a good source of protein and nutrients.
Lamb Burgers
Lamb burgers have a slightly gamier flavor than beef burgers, but they are also more tender and flavorful. They are a great option for people who are looking for a healthier and more sustainable alternative to beef burgers.
Here are some of the things that make lamb burgers taste so good:
- The marbling of the meat: Lamb has a higher percentage of marbling than beef, which means that it has more fat and flavor.
- The seasoning: Lamb burgers are typically seasoned with a variety of herbs and spices, such as rosemary, thyme, garlic, and onion.
- The cooking method: Lamb burgers are best-cooked medium-rare to medium so that they retain their moisture and flavor.
If you’re looking for a delicious and flavorful burger, lamb is a great option. Just be sure to cook it to the right temperature so that it’s juicy and tender.
